that woman
Beside me for lo these many years. Is a believer. This past Monday, her birthday, we were on our way to the airport to go to the Vineyard national board meetings. It had been a harried and hurried morning, having discovered the kitchen sink pipes were frozen. So I’m under the kitchen sink with a hair dryer as we’re getting later and later off to the airport. Plus which it’s my day off, which I hadn’t had in a long while, and traveling to board meetings on my day off wasn’t putting me in a California frame of mind. So characteristically, as we’re late, and approaching the airport Nancy prays, “Lord, help us get to our plane on time, help us with the parking and the security lines….” and this lands upon my foul mood and I join the inner scoundrel chorus singing, “There is no God” or least not one who cares about us making our plane.
And we’re in the airport, checking in the luggage. Me, doing my best George Bush upon learning that Al Gore has withdrawn his concession, getting as Al complained, “a little snippy.” Because it’s the longest line ever at the security check in. There’s no way we’re going to make our flight. At which point, wandering on the far fringes of the line, an airport employee points us to the airport hotel and almost whispers, “They are just opening that line…..follow your way through the hotel to find it.” And we, and a few lucky others, wind our way through the airport hotel to find a perfectly open security check in. And we’re home free. On time, plenty of time. How’d she do that? Again?

ken, your post reminds me of two songs:
“Be My Baby” by Al Green where he basically says “wontcha be my lady, wontcha be my baby, wontcha be my baby” over and over again. It has this really excellent groove, is simple to wrap your mind around.
“Mercy Now” by Mary Gauthier, a folk-indie-bordering-on-country tune talking about how everyone (her father, her brother, her church and country) could “use a little mercy now”. Sounds like you were on the receiving end of some mercy that day.

garret, maybe these would work as “aftersongs” for church this weekend? Beginning of the vision series: Jesus is our Center being the theme. ken ps don’t forget your little proposal for blogg enhancing; don’s going to convert the http://www.creationcareforpastors.com site to word press as well, so we might have a couple of blogs to benefit from your services
